Surviving the bitter cold!

As predicted, with the weather being so cold - we stayed close to home for the remainder of last week and all this weekend. That's not to say that I didn't get anything accomplished. I finished my laundry, had groceries delivered and tidied up my place.

Robert and I each took a bath with Evan this week. I bathed with him first. I was so nervous about him slipping out of my grip. I'm certain Evan sensed my uneasiness and didn't really enjoy it. This afternoon, Robert and Evan had a bath together and he seemed to really enjoy himself.

After several minutes bathing, Robert got up and turned on the shower and the two of them rinsed off in the shower. Evan really liked it - except when the water sprayed in his face. But then of course, who really enjoys that. The shower also seemed to help ease his congestion. Anyway, here's a picture of Robert and Evan in the shower - from the waist up!

This week is going to be a busy one for us. On Wednesday, we're going to a movie with Carrie and Lily. On Thursday night, we're going to the Alberta Liberal Caucus Christmas Open House. I am really looking forward to seeing some of my co-workers that I haven't seen since August. On Friday, we're going to a goodbye lunch for my co-worker Jim who is moving to a position at Meals On Wheels. Later that night, we're going to Dallas' for appetizers and drinks (non-alcoholic for me) and to meet Jenn's not-so-new beau.

On another note, with the exception of last night, Evan has been sleeping through the night!

Seeing Santa!

Today we had a very busy day. First, Dallas and Paige came over and picked Evan and I up. We all headed to West Edmonton Mall for some shopping and to go visit Santa. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that we didn't have to wait long for a photo with Santa. The little girl that went before Paige wanted nothing to do with Santa - in fact, the mother came back after I finished to get a refund. Paige was a little apprehensive, but she was pretty good. As for Evan - well, it was just another stranger holding him.

Afterwards, we did some more shopping and had some lunch before heading to Evan's 2 month check-up with his pediatrician. Evan's doctor was running late, so Dallas and Paige came in to join us. Dallas tells me that Paige was concerned about the doctor checking out Evan. He's doing really well. Evan's really strong and he now weighs 12 pounds 8 ounces. On the way home, I was contemplating not going to bookclub tonight, but Dallas offered to stay with Evan and try to get him started on taking a bottle. I figured an opportunity like this wouldn't come up very often. After we had dinner, Dallas got ready to feed Evan while I pulled a disappearing act. It was very nice to get out to book club knowing that Evan was in good hands. He didn't eat very much from the bottle, but we'll keep working on it.

As for the rest of this week - I think we're sticking close to home since the weather is going to be so crummy!

Our Day Today!

So today was Grey Cup Sunday...and the poor Edmonton Eskimos were not playing! I dressed Evan up in the EE colours anyway! On a positive note, Evan slept through the night last night - from 10:30 pm to 7:20 am. I, on the other hand, did not.

We started today by going to brunch at the Hi Level Diner with my dad, Aunt Susan and Uncle Bryan. After a brief wait in line, we finally settled in for brunch. I passed Evan over to my Aunt Susan and in a matter of minutes this is what happened...

I couldn't believe it! My Aunt Susan said she was fine eating her breakfast with one hand while holding Evan in the other. I took advantage of the opportunity and was able to eat my eggs benedict - and some of my dad's brunch - without taking a break to tend to Evan. When we were all done our food - Evan woke up. Perfect timing!

After brunch, we headed to the condo to watch today's football game. Half-time went a little something like this...

All in all, it was a pretty good day.

Our weekend!

Today, Evan and I spent the day with my dad. Evan slept in until around noonish. Actually, he woke up at around 9:30 am. I fed him and then he crashed until noon. I know he only slept so late because he did not nap at all yesterday - that's a whole different story.

We started by going for lunch at a Dim Sum Restaurant called Noodle Noodle. IT was my first Dim Sum experience and it was very good. I steered clear of the squid, tripe, shark fin and chicken feet. I personally really liked these chicken buns - at least I think that's what they were.

Afterwards, we spend the afternoon watching football at the condo. Afterwards, my dad took my grocery shopping before he went to dinner at a family friends' house.

Yesterday, we stayed pretty close to home. Evan was really fussing - crying - a lot before he would fall asleep. When he did finally fall asleep, it was only for minutes at a time. Robert and I just did our best to soothe and comfort Evan. I know everyday is different with a new baby - but today seems to be going better, thanks to some advice I received from some members on LP.

This week, we're going to a movie with Carrie and Lily on Wednesday. At some point, I have to go to my work to sign an employment contract for the duration of my maternity leave so that I still get health benefits. I told them I would come in when I could but it was a bit of a hassle.

In other news - my mom booked my airline ticket for coming home from Victoria. So far, I know we're coming back on Saturday, December 16th. I'll be leaving on either the 7th, 8th, or 9th.

Okay...

For some silly reason, I have been unable to leave comments on my friends' blogs. So everyone - here are some comments I wanted to leave on your blog but couldn't because the internet gods hate me!

Erin (in response to I.Am.A.Loser)

I feel your pain girly! I once called Dallas' and when Dallas (Or so I thought) answered the phone, I said "What's up beyotch?!"

It was her sister Sarah!

Carrie (In response to the Before and After)

1. You look so good - even without at hat! I forgot my mitts when I went to get my flu shot today. Gotta love mommy brain!

(In response to the Coffee Maker Toy as a gift)

I don't see anything wrong with it. Lily needs to learn early so she can bring you coffee in the morning!

Jenn (In respone to Irritated at Winter)

In University, I also took a Religion Course. It was one of my favourite courses. I learned the same things. The fundamentals of the major world religions. It was fascinating.

I also took a Theology Class (Bioethics from the Catholic Perspective). I didn't pass.

For now that's all. BUT....

Robert and I have decided that Evan bears a strong resemblance to Astro Boy. What do you think?

I wish I knew to look away

Yesterday, Evan has his two month immunizations. They went as well as expected. He cried - alot. By the time we headed out to the waiting room, he was just wimpering. When I started dressing him, he was talking to his hands. I shouldn't have watched the nurse give the injections. After the first one, I just looked at Evan's face.

Anyway, he slept from 2:30 until around 5:30 pm and then woke up crying in pain. After about half an hour he settled down and went to sleep again. Actually - that is pretty much what he has been doing ever since he had his shots - just sleeping. If he's not sleeping, he just kind of sits there.

At about 3 this morning, I woke up feeling cold and achy - almost flu like symptoms. Fortunately, I don't think it is the flu - but rather me being over-tired. With Evan sleeping so much lately, I have taken the opporunity to catch up on my rest. I really feel like I should do some laundry or do some vacuuming - but Robert said none of that stuff mattered. He said I should just take it easy and he would take care of all of that stuff on Saturday.

So with my little boy sound asleep right now, I think I will take advantage of the opportunity and take a long hot bath.

My new life...

So I guess my daily activities with Evan are going to be the main topic of my posts - at least for now.

For Halloween, Evan and I spent the day close to home - and based on weather reports, I am really glad we did. While I was not as crafty as Carrie, I did dress Evan up in a onesie in the spirit of the holiday. I guess I will have to come up with a great costume idea for next year.

Last night, I was dealing with an infected ingrown fingernail on Evan. His poor little index finger was bright pink at the tip. He kind of looked like ET! Anyway, after calling HealthLink and our family friend Pat, I was able to release some of the puss and apply some antibiotic cream. Hopefully, this will all be cleared up in a few days. Releasing the puss did not come without a lot of tears. I wish I could explain to Evan that I wasn't trying to hurt him.

Today, we went to Stars & Strollers with Carrie and Lily. It was a really good movie - The Prestige. Afterwards we did a bit of shopping in the mall. We made it home by 6 pm and it's been a quiet evening ever since.

Tomorrow, we're going for Evan's two month immunizations. I hope the needles don't bother him too much.
