So last night was far more bearable thanks to the strategic placement of my two fans. I still had a hard time getting to sleep last night, so I decided I was going to watch the Daily Show at midnight. Well, about two seconds into the show I guess Shaw was doing some network maintenance because not only did I lose my cable signal, my phone (also with Shaw) was out! Damn!
Anyway, I've had some requests about how my interview with the Canadian Paraplegic Association went. I felt like it went really well. I was feeling pretty sick, but those who know me know that I mustered up the energy to be outgoing and positive. My mom was nice enough to give me a ride to and from the interview. This was a very good thing because my interview started at 10:45 am and didn't end until around noon! They said I would hear by the end of this week, but I will definitely write it off if I don't hear from them by Wednesday of next week. Overall, I feel pretty confident about the interview. It would definitely be a new experience to work for a non-profit organization. All of my 'real' job experience since graduating has been government-related. It would be nice to expand my job experience. Now that I have typed all of this out, I will come home to find a voice-mail from the CPA. That tends to happen to me.
As for how I would handle leaving this job, my parents and I decided it would be best to say that I was head-hunted. This isn't ENITRELY a lie. A friend of my parents' works for a staffing agency and she advised me of the job posting. I also saw the posting on the PR jobline. I think in the interest of not burning bridges, I will stick with the head-hunting story.
Having said that - it is time to sign off from work and get the heck out of here!!!

Dealing with it!
So I think the worst of my cold has passed - I still have a bit of a cough but it is a hell of a lot more manageable than what I was coping with last week.
While I understand many people are enjoying this bout of excessive heat, I'm not really sure how to deal with it. My apartment is west facing and got damn hot last night. These are some of what I've done to cope with the heat:
1. Enlisted Robert to set up the fans and windows so that air is circulating effectively.
2. Three showers a day!
3. Clothing -> mostly optional
4. Cleaned out the fridge and freezer
5. Go to local restaurant for beer or Strongbow
I am soooo tempted to buy an air conditioner. What would really help is having one of those window fans that Carrie got several years ago. I am absolutely certain that they are sold out though. Oh well - back to partial nudity and Strongbow!

Haze!
So I spent pretty much the entire weekend in a Dayquil/Nyquil induced haze. Between my being sick and Robert's injured back - we were both in pretty foul moods on Saturday.
By Sunday, however, we had both improved drastically. Around lunch time, I headed over to my parents' place to apply for some jobs and to visit. Last night, Robert and I went in search of dinner because neither of us felt like cooking. Well, the first restaurant we went to was closed. So we hiked up a block or so to the BP's. We thought they were closed because their lounge door was locked. To our surprise, and relief, the restaurant was open - so we settled on BP's. Not our first choice - but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of service.
I just realized how dull this blog entry is....

Weekly Update!
I just feel like I'm struggling through each day. Before anyone gets too worried - it's not that big of a deal, I'm just fighting some killer infection that is kicking my ass right now. My nose is running, I cannot stop coughing and I am all plugged up. To top it all off, I had to be all normal and perky yesterday for a job interview with the Canadian Paraplegic Association. The interview was an hour and fifteen minutes! I thought I was only going to have to fake good health for about half an hour! Hopefully I pulled it off!
I have to go to the bank today because some strange, unauthorized payments came out of my account. It's no problem to get my money back - I just need to fill out a form - but they are strongly recommending that I close this account and open a new one to ensure it doesn't happen again. Drama, drama, drama!
On a more positive note, I went with Dallas and Paige to a picnic/bbq at Fort Edmonton Park. It was a lot of fun - but Dallas and I were so hungry I don't think we even tasted the food we jammed down our throats. Dallas and Paige came over and watched Big Brother 7 All Stars! By the way Dallas - we can vote online at www.cbs.com!!! GO MARCELLAS!!!!!!
On that note - here's to a Dayquil/Nyquil filled weekend!

Father's Day (aka - my SIL is dense)
We celebrated Father's Day at my parents' condo yesterday evening. We spent some time on their patio with some cold drinks. It was so nice until...my sister-in-law had to open her mouth and ask Robert if he talked to his kids today!
I seemed to remember going over the touchy subject of Robert's kids with my family last year...as in we don't bring them up as a topic of conversation. Robert just said he hasn't talked to them in over 5 years. She started carrying on about isn't there something he could do to get visitation through the courts. Robert just walked away and I told her to drop it. OMG...is she retarded? Doesn't she think that he has already done all of those things? We were just going to take a bus home, but Craig offered to drive us...actually he insisted.
Anyway...aside from that, the progress on my parents' home in Victoria is coming along nicely. They told us last night that since they are putting as much of the house as possible on VISA (for the airmiles), they want to take the 4 of us kids on a holiday in fall 2007 to either Ireland, France or Italy. We were pretty happy to hear that news, although I don't think the prospect of travelling with my SIL is very appealing right now for myself or Robert. Oh well, that is sometime down the line.

Rainy Day!
What a crappy day!!! Would you believe that Robert's boss has him pouring and finishing concrete outside today??
He starts back at P-Ban on Monday.
Right now, I'm just killing time before I have to go to some community league meeting that I was advised(read:told) to attend. Whatever - I know it won't go for very long. I had a choice:
1. Attend this meeting
OR
2. Meet up with Laurie at the City Centre Market at 8:45 am on Saturday. She's ringing the opening bell and schmoozing with vendors and constituents.
I chose #1, and our summer student is doing the second!!!

Hunting
Okay, so on Friday I managed to escape work at around 5: 30 pm. However, Save-On Foods still didn't have the items I was looking for.
I spent the weekend job hunting. I have finally come to the realization that I need to find a second (part-time) job, until I find another full-time job that pays better and has room for advancement. I spent the weekend filling out job applications and dropping them off. So far, I have applied at London Drugs, Safeway, Save-On Foods, and Shoppers Drug Mart. I really don't have any preference. Safeway and London Drugs are closest to where I live, but Save-On and Shoppers are not that much farther. My parents and Robert do not want me working more than 12 hours a week. Having a second job will allow me to pay my parents back a lot quicker and give me a bit of wiggle room financially.
Yesterday, I went to visit my dad (my mom is in Victoria again) and apply for some more jobs. We went for a super yummy dinner at Tony's Pizza Palace. It's on 111 Ave and 95th-ish street. For those who have been with me to Santos - the food at Tony's is way better than Santos. I had the baked canneloni, with leftovers for today's lunch!!!
Beyond that, I stuck pretty close to home this weekend.
For my friend Carrie, who is expecting her first baby soon:

Waiting, waiting
So I am here at work waiting for my boss. At 4:20 my boss dropped off the digital camera for me to empty before all the events this weekend. My boss said she would pick up the camera in half an hour...it is now 5:20 pm. *Breathe in - Breathe Out*
I have tried calling the cell, but there is no answer.... *Breathe in - Breathe Out* I don't really have anything better to do than go to the gym and then stop at Save-On to pick up some stuff I wasn't able to earlier this week because they were out of stock....*Breathe in - Breathe Out*
So here I am..blogging before the weekend. I spent all of last weekend in one of two locations:
1. The couch
2. The bathroom getting sick
I'm pretty much over the flu or whatever was making me run to the bathroom every half hour...but the fatigue is definitely still there!!
Some fun stuff I have discovered about my new place:
1. It is a hell of a lot quieter in this neighbourhood.
2. If I leave my bathroom door open, I can still watch television while I soak in a hot bath. Sadly...the remote does not work from that distance.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Barely moving!
Okay...so I can barely walk this morning! Yesterday, I did my legs work-out and I overdid my calves. Last week I didn't do calf raises because they were pretty sore, and the week before my workouts were out the window due to my business trip to Calgary. So, it had easily been three weeks since I had done calf raises. I probably should have scaled back to 20 pounds instead of pushing my usual 40 pounds. Needless to say, I am taking a break from the gym today and I am trying to walk as little as possible today. That plan didn't start out so well since I had to run after the bus this morning!
Didn't do much last night except try to massage and stretch my calves and watch "So you think you can dance?" and made fun of those who thought they could. I felt a small twinge of guilt about making fun of those people, because I am certainly no Ginger Rogers or anything. At least this season, I don't have to listen to my Aunt carry on about how her daughters (my cousins) would have easily made it to the finals. Blah Blah Blah!!!
I hope everyone stays cool this weekend! Bueno Gelato may be beckoning me this weekend!

New Start
Okay...so I suck! I haven't updated in months. At first it was mostly out of embarassment because I was dealing with some major personal turmoil. However, with the help and support of everyone I know, I have come through this a stronger person. I know some of you weren't aware of the crisis as it was going on...but trust me, knowing I had your friendship was a source of strength.
Moving on from the Oprah moment....
I also haven't updated because at work I spend my life on the phone and on the computer...so it is truly the last thing I want to do in my free time. I also haven't yet hooked up internet at home.
So, I'm settled and living in a new place. I love, love, love living in the Oliver neighbourhood. It is very quiet and I don't feel nearly as unsafe walking around at night. I think my new place might be slightly bigger than where I was before...but it is also possible that the space was planned a bit better. I only have one bathroom - but those who know me know this is a good thing because I HATE cleaning bathrooms!
My job is going well and I'm very busy with the comings and goings of work. Work is the only place I can do my personal internet business. Most of the time, if I don't do it first thing in the morning, it just doesn't get done.
I have also being working hard at the gym. Robert is far more motivated to work out than I am...however the embarassment of having to admit to Robert (when he asks) that I haven't gone is usually enough motivation. I can't lie to him about it either - he can tell.
My apologies for not updating sooner, and again my thanks to everyone!!!
