Another week goes by...

I don't know if it is just me, but it seems like time is going by so quickly. Friday seems to come so quickly!

Last night, my parents and I went for manicures and dinner at Kotouki's. It was a very pleasant evening. Aside from getting gel nails done, I have never had a professional manicure before. It was kind of fun. I'm really not used to wearing nail polish and worrying about smudging 5 minutes after leaving the spa. Oh well.

Earlier this week, I burned my arm semi-badly on the inside of my oven door. I was making oven-roasted potatoes and I guess the oil and pan got too hot and started smoking. The smoke detector was going off and I was panicking to get the pan out of the oven. I grazed my right arm on the oven door. The oven was heated to about 500 degrees! Anyway, all is well - the potatoes didn't burn. In fact, they were a big hit! I've been wearing Second Skin Bandages all week in the hopes of avoiding a nast scar.

Today, I had a job interview with the Alberta Mental Health Board for a Communications Coordinator position. I took the morning off of work. I really should have taken the whole day off. Oh well.

Tomorrow, I'm going to my first same-sex wedding. A good family friend is tying the know tomorrow at Robertson-Wesley United Church and they are having the wedding reception at Whitemud Community Hall.

Tonight, if the weather isn't too stiffling, we might go to a Taste of Edmonton. On the other hand, EDfest at Capital Ex is free tonight and Default is headlining the show - so that is another option.

Shopping Bags and BBQs

So while I haven't had any more encounters with boys wearing grillz - I certainly had a busy weekend. Robert worked all weekend - so I was pretty much on my own most of the time. On Saturday, I went out to my Auntie Wendy's place for a BBQ. We had a lot of fun! Before dinner, we all had a swim in their outdoor pool. We had an amazing dinner. Filet mignon, potatoes, salad, baked beans, grilled peppers, onions and mushrooms and fresh bread! For dessert, we had Angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Top that off with a few alcoholic beverages - and I was a happy lady! We had a really good visit with Wendy and her husband Dave. They were very instrumental in helping me move into the apartment. In fact, if it were up to Dave, we would have moved everything in on that one Saturday they helped. Both he and my Aunt Wendy have health issues, so my family and I had to put our foot down and tell them they had done enough. But I digress...

Yesterday, my mom and I went shopping - even though I was not in the mood. We needed to exchange some pants and tops she had purchased for me at Talbots. We came away with another pair of black pants and a super cute black and white skirt.

Well - we hadn't counted on buying the skirt, so we had to go to Addition-Elle at Kingsway to find a top to go with the skirt. The top that I liked at Addition-Elle wasn't available in my size - so they're bringing it in from another store and my mom will pick it up this week. As much as I was not in the mood to try on clothes - I will be very accomodating, especially when my mom is paying! There was another skirt at Talbots that I really liked and I will probably go back and purchase on my own.

Thoughts?

Wannabe thug!

Okay, so I was at Safeway grocery shopping last night. I don't really enjoy shopping at the Oliver Safeway, but it is closest to where I live. So I get in line to pay for my groceries, and in front of me is this wannabe thug. I think he was shorter than Robert and I - about Jodi's height and Craig's build- and was wearing baggy hanging down-to-there clothes and grillz on his top and bottom teeth. For those who don't know what grillz are - they're made of gold, silver or platinum and cover your teeth. Sometimes they have diamonds or other bling on them too. Some people wear them on their top teeth or their bottom teeth or both!

It was the end of the day and I was pretty tired, but it took all of my energy not to laugh at this kid. Anyway, all he was buying was 2 litres of milk and a case of pop. The dude did not have enough money!!! The lady bagging his groceries was nice enough to make up the balance for him but OMG!!! I've been grocery shopping before with very limited funds and I have never ever come up short! Robert said he should have used one of his grillz to pay the grocery bill.

Some people's kids...

As time goes by!

I wanted to post last week, but for some reason this web site was acting strangely. As most of you know, I'm updating from work so I have to be a bit stealth when it comes to personal web surfing at work.

So, the heat and the humidity...oh so much fun to deal with. I have got some crazy curly hair going on right now. I have been wanting to straighten it lately, but there is absolutely no point.

My weekend was incredibly uneventful as Robert spent the weekend working. While it kind of sucked, it made up for the holiday Monday and gave him the day off today. He wound up spending the night last night, so it really sucked to have to wake up early this morning instead of lounging in bed. I'm certain he has felt the same when he has had to go to work for 7:30 am while I've been able to sleep in a bit longer. Okay - he probably doesn't think "Oh this sucks having to get up instead of spending time in bed with my illustrious girlfriend" - but I'd like to think so!

A few weeks ago, I had an interview with the Canadian Paraplegic Association. As predicted, they were very slow in getting back to me - about a week later than promised. Anyway, I did not get the position. I was a little down about it but I know there are other positions out there.

Beyond that, not much is going on in my life. My mom just got back from Victoria on Friday, so I am looking forward to hearing about the progress on their home. I can't believe that in just a matter of months they are going to be moving out to Victoria.

Time is going by far too quickly!

Extra Long-Weekend

So Dallas had a feeling that something wasn't right...hopefully her gut feeling had to do with the fact I was right sick on Thursday night. It was one of two things:

1. Chicken Quesidillas from Brewsters
2. Slight case of heat exhaustion.

I suspect the heat finally got to me. I was so tired and a bit quesy on Friday - I wound up staying home. I think poor Robert is suffering from the same thing today. Yeah, we're both pretty wimpy when it comes to the hot weather.

On Canada Day, I met up with my colleagues to help serve up cake at a local community pancake breakfast. Afterwards, we went for lunch at Ricky's and then went our seperate ways. That night, Robert and I decided it wasn't really worth it to venture out to see the fire-works. Instead, we stayed in and had some cold beers and a really good conversation that included extreme kudos to Dallas and Darren on their parenting skills.

Yesterday, I went to the dentist for the first time....in three years! My friends - I strongly advise against waiting this long. I waited so long because I didn't have dental coverage for a while and I was nervous that I would have to have more oral surgery done. For those whoe don't know - a few years back, I dealt with a brutal recovery from a tonsillectamy. Anyway, everything looks good - no cavities or decay. BUT, I have to go back for part 2 of the hygiene appointment. That's what three years of plaque build-up will get you - 2 hygiene appointments. Oh well - at least I don't need any dental work done.

I just got some exciting news from my friend Cindy. For those who are having a hard time remember who Cindy is - I used to work with her at Alberta Energy. On Friday, June 30, Cindy and Jason (her s.o.) got engaged!!!
