On Tuesday, I met up with Marg - a friend of my mom's - for lunch and some job hunting and career advice. We had a really nice visit. She is going to look at my resume and cover letter and give me some ideas on how to spruce it up. My mom joined us towards the end of lunch for a coffee and to drop off a couple of light-weight sweaters that she bought for me from the Bay.
After work, I went down to the job site that Robert was working so that we could have dinner together. He was in a much better mood than earlier in the day. I had been to only one other job site where Robert was working. This job was different because it was much bigger. The machine he uses to finish the cement looks like a giant lawnmower with rotating blades underneath that polish the curing concrete. I told him it looked like fun! Robert assures me that he is working and that sometimes the fumes can be a little tough to handle. Because he wound up working from around noon until 2:30 am, he had yesterday off. Since he never knows how long his shifts are going to be - he wound up going to the gym twice yesterday. Fortunately, we were able to spend some time together in between my workout and his two workouts.
On the job front - I haven't heard from any of the places I have applied to. I do have to bear in mind that it is summer time and most places aren't in hiring mode.

Dozy Eyes & Sleepy Babes
After two nights of very poor sleep - I dragged my sorry butt into work yesterday. It was pretty tough to keep my eyes open. A very big part of me wanted to put my head down on my desk and take a quick nap.
My spirits and energy were rejuvenated when I went to see my friend Carrie, her husband Bryan and their new little daughter, Lily. Both Carrie and Bryan seem so relieved that she is finally here and ready to experience the world. I'm an auntie again. Since Craig and Jodi are not planning to have children, my friends' kids are the closest I will come to having nieces and nephews. So far, it has been all 'nieces'.
I do have to say that Lily is a cute little baby. She is so tiny and so quiet.
Carrie and I visited while Bryan was trying to cure his computer of the 'blue screen from hell.' When I first got there, Bryan was pretty optimistic all would be well - by the end of my visit, well that was a different story. He seemed a little sad. I hope it all worked out. If my computer went on the fritz like that, I wouldn't know how to fix it myself - so I do admire his techie skills.
I can't believe another friend of mine has a baby. I guess it is that time of our lives.
Step right up, step right up - we'll spin the 'baby wheel' and see who's next on the road to parenthood.
Aside:
I only did the following Blogthing because it made me laugh and I want to see all my other friends' results - so come one

A Gong Show!
At 9:30 am today, it dawned on me that today was going to be a big gong show. As I was working on the news clippings, I received a phone call from Carrie's husband, Bryan, letting me know that they were on their way to the hospital. So at some point today - hopefully - I will be heading down to the Grey Nun's Hospital to visit my friends and their new baby.
Today, my boss has an extremely busy schedule. This afternoon, she's meeting with one of the researchers and then she has a lot of media phone calls and interviews to do - all relating to her critic area of Health and Wellness.
My co-workers and I were planning to take the trolley over to the Whyte Avenue area to have lunch at Chianti's today - but with my boss' schedule being so frantic this afternoon and our office being closed all day tomorrow, I didn't think it was such a good idea to be out of the office for upwards of an hour and a half.
Tomorrow, I am driving the Wills to the airport. I will be spending the night out there tonight. So it will be nice to sleep in a bit tomorrow and spend time with the Wills.

Long Night!
Well last night was a long - but productive night.
Robert was working out on a massive job in Camrose yesterday, all night, and as of 9 am this morning. He phoned in between hitting the concrete - if not to help him stay awake. It sucked that he had to work all night - but any hours he works over and above 40/week will be banked and paid out on those slower weeks. So I guess it is not such a bad thing.
When I got home - I did two loads of laundry that I desperately needed to do. Once those were done I went to do some much needed grocery shopping at Safeway.
I hate that store. I would have abandoned my cart except for the fact that I pretty much had nothing left but cheese and apples. It was frustrating because it seemed that their meat department had been picked over by wolves. It has been like that the last few times I have been there. Further to that - I will never understand the shopping styles of some people. For instance, the couple that walks side by side while shopping preventing anyone else from getting by them....EVER! I was about to kill the little gay boy that kept referring to strawberry yoghurt as 'strawbewwy yoghurt'...REPEATEDLY! I thought it might be perceived as a hate crime and decided to move along.
That store needs a meditation area where you can park you cart, take a mat and practice deep breathing or visualization exercises.
On a happier note - I had a great cashier who was most helpful in getting me a cab home. Even better - my cab driver helped carry my groceries to my front door - so I guess the whole grocery shopping experience wasn't all that bad. I even got home in time to watch Big Brother 7.

Jerky bus drivers and calypso
Well my weekend started off on a rather frustrating note. On my way home, the bus driver apparently thought it was more important to converse with his friend than it was to do his job properly - such as drop passengers off when they request the next stop, or turn down 121 Street to my bus stop so that I (and three other passengers) have to walk three extra blocks in the rain.
Serenity now...
It was an otherwise pretty quiet weekend. Robert and I were going to go to CariWest on Saturday. Just as we were about to go, his work called and asked if he would work that day. *Heavy exhale* So Robert worked and I did a massive overhaul clean of the apartment - including a major scrub down of the bathroom! I actually feel pretty good to have the place spotless. We'll just have to see how long it lasts. The staging area for the parade was about a block from my apartment and the music was loud and clear. I was cleaning to some calypso and soca music. It was pretty cool.
Yesterday, I went to keep my dad company. We worked on my budgeting and bought a movie on Video on Demand. We were waffling between '16 Blocks' and 'Syriana' - we opted for 16 Blocks and were pleasantly surprised.
Last night, my dad went for dinner to a friends' place and we headed to CariWest to partake in some food and music. We came back to the apartment and watched some quality Sunday night television.
To cap it all off - at about 3:17 am - someone decided to rev their muffler enhanced engine. A very nice wake-up call!
